Visit on Your Own, Schedule a Tour, Or Even Stay Overnight

While you are welcome to visit on your own, the nominal fee for a guide to escort you through this special site brings your visit to life and makes it that much more meaningful to understand all that you're seeing. Except for the fee as listed for the Nocturnal Animal Tour, regular entrance fees are not included in the cost of tours. All prices are listed in Ariary.
Hours
Open Seven Days a Week from 0900 - 1700 (9am to 5 pm)  Last admission at 4:30, but earlier arrival is highly recommended.

Entrance Fees 
These fees are critical to support our ongoing conservation and education efforts. Please note that because of the significant variances in income between visitors and locals, the fees are greatly subsidized for Malagasy locals and residents to enable them to also learn about and appreciate the wondrous biodiversity Madagascar offers that brings so many visitors to our shores.

Tours and Reservations: ​Regular admission fees are not included in these costs.

Please confirm your reservation at least one day in advance. Reserve a Tour. 

Interpreter: If you would like someone to accompany you or your small group and provide translation all day both at the Parc and in the city, this can be arranged for you at additional cost. Languages include French, English, German, and Italian with some limited availability in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.

Basic Tours

This guided tour takes 60 to 90 minutes and includes the zoo and Environmental Education Center where you can learn about the rich biodiversity of Madagascar. It includes 1 to 6 persons. For 7 to 12 persons, add a second guide, 13 to 18 persons a third guide, and so on.

Basic tours can be offered in French, English, German, and Italian. There is also limited availability of tours in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.

Complete Day Tour

Discover more of Parc Ivoloina. This tour takes you through the Forestry Station where you'll see the variety of eco-agriculture projects. You'll visit special areas like the rare plants being protected as part of the Darwin Initiative. This tour includes Ivoloina Zoo and the Environmental Education Center and the trails as described below. Tour in Malagasy. Ask about interpreters. Includes up to 6 persons. Additional persons require additional guides per 6 persons.

School Group Tour

Introduce your students to the native wonders of island. Your guided experiences includes the live animals in Ivoloina Zoo as well as a tour through the Environment Education Center.

Nocturnal Animal Tour

Beginning at 17h30 (5:30p) and lasting about an hour, this after sunset/after dark tour highlights the nocturnal species living in the zoo. Visit the aye-aye, mouse lemurs, frogs, and snakes. This tour takes guests through the zoo, and not into the larger Parc.

The Nocturnal Animal Tour requires advance booking.



Picnic Lunches 
Dining is offered along Lake Fulgence at the Thirsty Dronga. Meals or snacks as well as cold beverages are available. We can also arrange a picnic lunch to enjoy in the forest as you tour Parc Ivoloina.

Dormitory Lodging 
Parc Ivoloina offers very basic lodging for those wishing to stay overnight. Each room includes bunk beds with linens, pillows, and a mosquito net. Basic electricity is available from an on-site generator. You'll also find a writing desk and chair and shelves. Bathrooms and showers are in the same building and accessed from the outside. For groups, the maximum capacity is 32. We can also arrange to hire a cook for you.

Camping 
Parc Ivoloina offers campsite locations near the buvette or by the Ivoloina Conservation Training Center. Use of restrooms and showers.

Directions 
Parc Ivoloina is a 30 to 40  minutes drive from Toamasina (Tamatave).

  • Head north from the airport along Route National 5 for approximately 10 km.
  • At the Ivoloina sign (just before the bridge over the Ivoloina River), turn left on a gravel road and continue for 2 km.  (This road can be very bumpy.) You will see the entrance to Parc Ivoloina on your left.
  • Follow the park road for another 2 km, until you reach the visitor center and ticket booth where our delightful and helpful staff look forward to welcoming you.

This international consortium consists of zoos, botanical gardens, and universities located in Europe, North America, Africa, Australasia,and Asia. Your visit and donations support our conservation and education efforts for the people and lands of eastern Madagascar.
